Nasiffik - Centre for Foreign & Security Policy invites to a public talk with professor Whitney Lackenbauer.
Events over the last few weeks have shown how global affairs directly influence international relationships in the Arctic region.
With the Arctic Council and other regional bodies now on "pause" owing to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, questions abound about the future of Arctic governance, peace, and stability.
- Is Russia's growing military footprint in its Arctic zone a threat to the North American Arctic?
- How and why are China's Arctic ambitions a source of security concern for Arctic peoples?
- How should we think about the threats through, to, and in the North American Arctic - and what should we do to address them?
Dr. Whitney Lackenbauer, a professor and Canada Research Chair in the Study of the Canadian North at Trent University in Canada, is one of Canada's foremost academic experts on Arctic defence and security issues.
Please join us for a talk, followed by a question and answer session, to discuss Arctic security and foreign policy issues at a time when circumpolar cooperation faces unprecedented challenges.
